Farms, museums and heritage sites for school day trips

A day out to a farm or museum is often the visit pupils remember longest from primary school. The venues in this section run themed days, guided tours or hands-on sessions for school groups, and several tie their programmes to topics such as the Stone Age, the Victorians, food and farming or living things and their habitats.

When you contact a venue, ask about coach parking, indoor space for lunch if it rains, toilet arrangements and whether there is a free teacher planning visit. Many publish a risk assessment you can adapt. Booking early in the school year helps, as summer term dates tend to fill first.
